Manchester City faces Chelsea

Manchester City faces Chelsea at the Estadio Do Dragao in Porto in the final of the Champions League. We believe now it’s an excellent time to take a look at this spectacle in our free soccer predictions for today. Are you ready?

Manchester City was waiting for this moment for years. This is their first Champions League final and chance for a first trophy in the competition. This was the main goal since City’s current owners took control of the club. The Cityzens spent over a billion to reach this game, and now it’s their chance to make history.

According to many pundits, Manchester City is a slight favorite against Chelsea on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s team made an impressive performance during the 1/2-finals when City scored two wins against last season’s finalists PSG. The Algerian international Riyad Mahrez was the hero of the day during the 1/2-finalist as he scored three goals in total against the French giants.

Chelsea did an impressive job during the 1/2-finals as well. The Blues faced the most successful club in the history of the competition, Real Madrid. After a strategic draw in the Spanish capital, Thomas Tuchel’s team dominated in the second leg, and a comfortable 2-0 win was enough to send Chelsea to the final. For the Londoners, this is the first Champions League final since 2012 when they won their first and only trophy so far against Bayern Munich.

Let’s say a few words for what we expect to see from both manager Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel. These two coaches are among the best tacticians in the world, so you can be sure we will see at least a few surprises at the Do Dragao.

We expect to see a Manchester City line-up close to what we saw against PSG at the beginning of the month. There’s no doubt that Ruben Dias and John Stones will start together in the heart of the defense. These two players created a brilliant partnership this season, and Dias is incredibly influential since his move from Benfica. Kyle Walker and Oleksandr Zinchenko should start as fullbacks while Fernandinho or Rodri will partner Ilkay Gundogan in midfield. Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez look like untouchable starters for Man City as well.

It’d be surprising to see if Guardiola will trust the 20-years old Phil Foden among the starting eleven again. Foden made a terrific performance during the games against PSG despite his young age. Given what Guardiola is doing in the last one or two months, we believe Foden will start on Saturday. He’s a very exciting player, and arguably, he will be one of England’s biggest stars in the future.

Guardiola will have some options from the bench as well. Players like Joao Cancelo, Raheem Sterling, Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus, and Sergio Aguero will be ready to enter from the bench at any time.

Chelsea already lost one final this month, and now they will try to do better, that’s for sure. In the middle of the month, the Blues faced Leicester City in the FA Cup final, but they lost the fight for the trophy after a 0-1 defeat at Wembley. It was Thomas Tuchel’s first final with Chelsea, but the German manager didn’t have any reason to celebrate.

Against Leicester City, Tuchel used his usual 3-4-3 formation. He chose Hakim Ziyech instead Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in the line-up, but it could be different on Saturday. Both Havertz and Pulisic are good enough to find a place in the starting eleven against Man City. At the same time, Timo Werner and Mason Mount look like untouchable figures in the line-up – at least for now.

The amazing N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are the usual partners in the central midfield while Tuchel must choose between Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso for the left flank. The club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is usually starting on the right.

One of the best defenders of his generation Thiago Silva will be really important for Chelsea at the Do Dragao. The Brazilian legend is trying to win his first Champions League trophy – a prize which he desires to put his hands on for a lot of time now. Silva is now 36-years old, but he has been very solid his move to the Stamford Bridge from PSG. Last season he reached the Champions League final, but the French club suffered a defeat against Bayern Munich.

Chelsea worried their fans in their last Premier League for the season, though. The Londoners faced Aston Villa at the Villa Park but suffered a 1-2 defeat against the hosts. Ben Chilwell scored one for the Blues, but it didn’t end well for Tuchel’s team. At the same time, Manchester City showed their best football and put an end to their Premier League season with a stunning 5-0 win against Everton. We remind you that City won the domestic league this season and added another Carabao Cup trophy to their collection.

The managerial duel between Josep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel is probably the most important rivalry on Saturday. The Catalan manager will try to win the Champions League trophy for a third time in his career while for Tuchel this is a chance to win it for a first time. Last season Tuchel reached the final with PSG, but it didn’t end well for his team.

That’s our free soccer predictions for today for the Champions League exciting final between Manchester City and Chelsea on Saturday. It isn’t easy to discuss favorites and underdogs when it comes to a final at this levels. Many people believe that City has the edge here, but Chelsea proved their credentials with their performance against Real Madrid. We think both teams are hungry for the trophy, so one thing is for sure – there’s going to be some real fight at the Estadio Do Dragao in Porto. Which one would it be – the first one for City or a second one for Chelsea?
