Chelsea – Liverpool Preview

Chelsea faces Liverpool at the Wembley in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. One of these two teams will have the chance to win a trophy, but make no mistake – it’s quite difficult to pick a favourite. Yes, Liverpool are playing better this season, but Chelsea are a club which knows how to play finals. Let’s preview it in our free soccer predictions for today.

For Chelsea this is another tough season. The Blues are in the middle of standings of the Premier League despite the arrival of a new manager. The massive overhaul of the squad didn’t help much neither. The team is unbeaten in its last three matches, but it’s still not clear if the manager Mauricio Pochettino will keep his job. A lot depends on how Chelsea will finish the campaign.

Last weekend Pochettino’s team showed some potential by winning a point against Manchester City at the Etihad – 1-1. Raheem Sterling opened the score against his former club, but Rodri equalised in the second half. Still, Chelsea played well against one of the strongest teams in the world, and this is giving them some confidence before the final.

It’d be interesting to see what Pochettino will decide regarding his line-up against Liverpool. Christopher Nkunku could replace Nicolas Jackson in the attack while Mykhailo Mudryk is an option for the attack as well. Many players are missing because of injuries, though – Thiago Silva, Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are all recovering from their injuries.

Chelsea are entering this final as underdogs, but don’t write them off just yet – their results are not equal to the potential they have.

Liverpool are the current Premier League leaders which makes them favourites in the Carabao Cup final. This is Jurgen Klopp’s last season at the club so he’d like to win as much trophies as possible. And now he can start with the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool are leading the Premier League standings and they are playing good football this season. The Reds had to play a few games without their star player Mohamed Salah, but now the Egyptian star is back in the squad. He even scored during the 4-1 win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend. Salah is going to be one of the players to watch in the final. He entered the pitch from the bench against Brentford, but surely he’s going to start on Sunday.

Cody Gakpo could return in the line-up in the final, too. The Dutch international started from the bench against Brentford, but he scored a goal as he entered the pitch. Another option for Klopp is to use Darwin Nunez as the titular striker. The Uruguayan star also scored during the win against Brentford.

The world champion Alexis Mac Allister is also a player to watch for Liverpool. In the absence of the injured Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister is even more responsible for Liverpool’s dynamics in midfield. The Argentine also scored against Brentford and showed glimpses of his best

shape. When he’s playing well, Alexis Mac Allister is a crucial player for both Liverpool and Argentina.
