Belgium will face Portugal
We hope you are ready for football from the highest quality because Belgium will face Portugal on Sunday in one of the most exciting 1/8-finals at the Euro 2020. We believe that’s a wonderful moment for us to take a look at this clash in our free soccer soccer predictions that win.
When we talk about the Belgian team we are one hundred percent talking about one of the contenders for the trophy. Some people believe that this team peaked when it reached the World Cup 1/2-finals in 2018, but we don’t agree completely – we think it peaks just right now. Romelu Lukaku is better than ever while Kevin De Bruyne is playing the best football of his life. The only problem is what happened with Eden Hazard in the last two seasons – he’s a shadow of his former self and that’s a huge loss for the Red Devils.
Because of Hazard’s problematic shape the manager Roberto Martinez is leaving him on the bench. The winger played full 90 minutes in the third match against Finland, but most likely he’s going to start from the reserves against Portugal. Instead of him it’s Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco who partners Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens upfront. The best Hazard can do right now is to be an impact substitution from the bench. Most likely that’s how he’s going to finish the European Championship.
How we said it’s Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne who are at the peak of their form right now. The Inter Milan striker already scored three goals in three matches so far while De Bruyne scored one goal and made two assists in two matches played. If Belgium are going to make something significant at the Euro 2020 you can be sure these two players are going to be the core figures for this.
Three wins from three matches played – Belgium showed us that they are not joking at any point. The Red Devils kept clean sheets in two of their matches so far which also speaks well of their defensive abilities. The manager Roberto Martinez prefers to use a 3-4-3 formation Yoeri Tielemans and Leander Dendoncker in central midfield. The veteran Axel Witsel is still part of the team, but just like Eden Hazard he has a backup role now. He’s always ready to help from the bench and it’s good for the manager Martinez to have such a player at his disposal.
No matter how good Belgium are in the attacking phase of the game they can’t possibly win the Euro without a solid defensive performance. At his back three Roberto Martinez is using Jan Verthongen, Dedryck Boyata and Toby Alderweireld. We can say they are doing well so far as the Red Devils conceded just one goal in their matches. But the real tests for them are just starting and they are completely aware with this.
When we talk about Portugal we talk about the current holders of the European trophy. Selecao won the tournament five years ago in France. Now many things are different for them, especially regarding the players selection, but at the same time some things remain the same – Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring goals for fun. The Juventus star is leading the goalscoring charts at the Euro 2020 with five goals on his account, and he just became the best goalscorer in the history of the competition.
Portugal has some problems right now, though. Yes – they scored nine goals so far in the competition, but their defense and midfield are not functioning in the best way possible. The team conceded six goals in its last two matches, and that’s a bit worrying for the head coach Fernando Santos. With Pepe and Ruben Dias he has an impressive duo in defense, but for some reason things are not happening well for them.
Fernando Santos is sticking to a 4-5-1 formation which changes to 4-3-3 when the team is attacking. Cristiano Ronaldo is leading the attack of course while usually it’s Diogo Jota and Bernardo Silva who support him from behind.
Now Fernando Santos must decide whether to keep his players selection from the last game against France or make new adjustments. Against Les Bleus he left William Carvalho and Bruno Fernandes on the bench and replaced them with Renato Sanches and Joao Moutinho. Now he must decide what to do again because many fans want to see Fernandes on the pitch, but the Manchester United star had a poor performances in the first two matches against Hungary and Germany. That’s the main reason why he got benched against France although he entered the pitch in the second half.
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota could really do better in the knockout phase. He was a regular scorer for the Reds last season, but so far he has scored just one goal in the matches played. It’s true that Cristiano Ronaldo is scoring a lot in these games so far, but he’d need more firepower to lead the team to another European Championship glory. Players like Diogo Jota could be crucial in this. He made some misses in the last three matches, so now he must focus and try to do better. The Portuguese fans know what he can do – that’s for sure.
That’s the free soccer soccer predictions that win for the Euro 2020 1/8-finals game between Belgium and Portugal at the Estadio de la Cartuja in Sevilla. We guess the Belgians enter this fixture as favorites – that’s pretty clear at this points. But at the same time that’s a little bit disrespectful to Portugal – the team which is still holding the European crown. Selecao scored a lot of goals in the group stage. If they find a way to fix their defensive woes they would be major contender for the title again. Belgium’s main task against Portugal would be stopping Cristiano Ronaldo because he’s just looking deadly at the moment. If they manage to neutralise him then it would become easier for them.
