Belgium – Italy

We are getting ready for one of the most exciting games at the Euro 2020! Belgium will face Italy in a match from the 1/4-finals of the competition and we certainly expect some fireworks here. Let’s discuss it in our free soccer soccer predictions that win.

Belgium are pretty much flawless since the beginning of the tournament – four wins from four matches played so far. Roberto Martinez’ team also kept three clean sheets which gives the Red Devils an even bigger confidence before the next game. Belgium are at the peak of their powers and they are looking to win their first international trophy in their history. This is their golden generation, so certainly the moment is now.

Belgium’s task at the 1/8-finals wasn’t easy as they had to face Portugal – the team which won the previous European Championship. The Red Devils did the job, though. They scored just one goal at the La Cartuja, but it was enough to clinch a crucial 1-0 win. Thorgan Hazard decided the game with a marvellous winning strike at the end of the first half. It seems he’s finally coming out of the shadow of his older brother Eden.

The Belgian manager Roberto Martinez took some really interesting decisions against Portugal. Surprisingly he left Dries Mertens on the bench and decided to start with Eden Hazard. It’s not a secret that Hazard is having some serious problems in the last two years, but Martinez chose to use him from the first minute against Selecao. In the second half he decided to refresh his attack and picked Yannick Carrasco and Dries Mertens from the bench.

One of Belgium’s most important players Kevin De Bruyne had to leave the pitch in the beginning of the second half. This worried the Belgian fans, but now the news are good – De Bruyne is in a good condition and he should play on Friday against the Azzurri. He’s clearly the heart of this Belgian side. Right now KDB is one of the best midfielders in the world. He scores and assists, and he decides games all of the time. Belgium are a completely different team when De Bruyne is on the pitch.

It seems that Roberto Martinez changed his mind about his central midfield duo as well. In the last two games he decided to start with the veteran Axel Witsel instead of Leander Dendoncker. It seems the Spanish coach wants to bring some bigger experience in his midfield. Witsel is a player who has many international games and competitions in his career, so his presence on the pitch could be very important for the Red Devils. It’s the same case with Thomas Vermaelen in defense. Despite being 35-years old now, Vermaelen remains a player which Martinez trusts. He played the whole 90 minutes against Portugal in the 1/8-finals.

Italy are aiming to reach the final of the European Championship again. They did it in 2012, but they lost against Spain. Now the Azzurri are full of confidence because they look better than ever under the management of Roberto Mancini. This Italian team looks ready to win the golden medals, but now they have an extremely difficult opponent at the 1/4-finals.

In the previous round for Italy it was surprisingly difficult to eliminate Austria. The four-time world champions needed extra-time to secure a 2-1 win over Das Team. The two substitutions Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina scored for Mancini’s team. Don’t be surprised to see them starting against Belgium on Friday. Especially for Chiesa, most of the Italian fans want to see him in the line-up in the remaining games. He’s a very dangerous winger who knows how to hurt the opponent. His goal against Austria was excellent to watch as he stopped the ball in the penalty area and just sent it past the goalkeeper with his left foot. Once again Federico Chiesa showed that he deserves to be a starter for the national team. Will Roberto Mancini change his mind now?

Marco Verratti and Jorginho remain Italy’s most decisive midfielders, but Mancini could make a rotation regarding the third man in his midfield area. Nicolo Barella was replaced in the middle of the second half against Austria while players like Manuel Locatelli and Matteo Pessina are ready to step up and start against Belgium. Pessina already showed this when he scored the crucial second goal against Das Team. Bryan Cristante is another option for the midfield, but most likely Mancini will choose between Barella, Locatelli and Pessina.

Italy will need a better Ciro Immobile against Belgium. The Golden Boot winner didn’t do much against Austria in the previous round, so Mancini had to replace him with Andrea Belotti. At the same time Lorenzo Insigne created some difficulties for the Austrians, but against a team like Belgium he must be better, too. How we already said, Belgium conceded just one goal since the beginning of Euro 2020, so their defense looks really strong at the moment.

At this moment Roberto Mancini hopes that his captain Giorgio Chiellini will be ready to face the Red Devils. The experienced defender missed Italy’s last two matches, but he started training with the squad again. If he’s fit enough to play, Chiellini will be a massive boost to Italy’s defense on Friday. His partnership with Leonardo Bonucci is a completely different deal when it comes to defending.

That’s our free soccer soccer predictions that win for the Euro 2020 1/4-finals match between Belgium and Italy. These two teams should deliver us an amazingly good game to watch at the Allianz Arena. For many people these are the two strongest teams in the competition right now. Belgium are feeling readier than ever to make something big, but Italy improved big time since the arrival of the head coach Roberto Mancini. One thing is for sure – both teams will give their all to reach the 1/2-finals. The final is really close right now.
